Oracle to acquire Sun

Got $7.4 billion?

So what's that do to MySQL, anyway?

Sun bought MySQL Inc (inc? corp? whatever). Therefore, they employe a lot of the people, hold most (all?) of the IP, and make a lot of money on their MySQL consulting biz. Oddly, they own PostgreSQL too.

Oracle doesn't own MySQL, but they own InnoDB, one of the sub-systems for providing table storage for MySQL.

Nice move, Mister Ellison. Sniped 'em right out from under Big Blue's sweaty paw.
