Two Oscar winners on The Electric Company

I’m sure I saw this when I was a child and just thought it was a goofy sketch. Watching this video as an adult gives me a new appreciation for the technical audaciousness and brilliant execution.

Rita Moreno, who had won an Oscar already in 1962, and Morgan Freeman, who went on to win Oscars in 1988, 1990, 1995 and 2005. Such talent!

[ Shout out to abillings for mentioning this on her LJ. ]

To be more accurate, Freeman was nominated in 1988, 1990, and 1995, and he won in 2005. (He only has one Oscar, not 4.)

And Bill Cosby and Irene Cara were also actors in the first season. And then you've got voiceover actors like Tom Lehrer, Mel Brooks, Gene Wilder, Joan Rivers, and Zero Mostel. It was a top-shelf production.

I think one of my favourite things about Livejournal is that weird bug where anytime somebody posts a YouTube video, what shows up on my friends page is something totally random. (I get the original video by going to the individual post's page page.)

I loved the Electric Company. That and ZOOM.

I bought the 5-disc "Best of the Electric Company" the second it came off the presses. *Love* that show. I've been watching it w/ Mr. X, and am stunned by how awesome it really was.

So are you going to have a viewing?

I remember liking the show, but seeing it as an adult is really cool. Thanks for posting.

Pee Wee's Playhouse was like that, too. Cowboy Curtis was Lawrence Fishburne.

How cool that you're a friend of Alexandra AND a friend of Mel's!

Very, very cool. Yay for you!

I'm a people collector :-)

P.S. How do we know each other?

The Electric Company was brilliant.
