Who are all these people?

LJ has become enough of a wasteland that I only check it once a week. Today I realize that I know longer remember half the real names of the people I read.

Esp. when they only post every 6 weeks or so.

I still like it better than FB for more than "I ate toast!".

real names are overrated, anyway.

YOUR LJ may be a wasteland

Beware of overgeneralizing.

Re: YOUR LJ may be a wasteland

Technically I said "enough of a wasteland". :)

(P.S. You're real name I remember!)

Re: YOUR LJ may be a wasteland

I'd be insulted to be forgotten. =P

If you make it up this-a-way for January do let us know. We are unlikely to make it out of Arisia proper for partying but socialization could happen.

Re: YOUR LJ may be a wasteland

I haven't planned that far ahead but I'll keep it in mind!

If you come to the NYC-area, be sure to let me know!

Re: YOUR LJ may be a wasteland

It's not impossible, but tough with two kids and now a dog. My new job has less PTO than my old one so my flexibility is less. Thank you, though, I will keep it in mind.

We've been thinking about Arisia because hotel rooms opened up last week and this week programming opened so we need to pick panels and such.

Re: YOUR LJ may be a wasteland

You could just come for Arisia :)

well, i give everyone a hint ;-) .

lcohen and drwex are named I can decode. If everyone else could send me email (tal@whatexit.org) and refresh my memory (name, how we know each other if it isn't obvious) I'd appreciate it.

Wow. Is this what a "senior moment" is like?

i rarely remember people's names in person!

I could never forget you :-)

I don't think it's so much a senior moment as an "oh, yeah, livejournal..." moment.

Hee, I just realized my user info says my maiden name but doesn't actually say my current last name, which is Capewell. :P

... also, apparently I need to post more.

I'm pretty sure you don't forget me, but you do know a lot of people!

You *probably* remember my real name. :-)

most of us can't remember your gender, other than "shark". And... I live in the same town.

my lj name [search-engine's] to my legal name.

You totally remember mine :)

Who are you again? :}

I doubt Tom remembers the mapping of my real name, but I can tell him at LISA.

kazmat: your name is already in my lookup table (which is under RCS revision control... that's how old it is)

I can map: ckd cos cthulhia dianec42 dieppe drsex kazmat lcohen mbarr turbogrrl

The rest of you... forgive me.

1) Woohoo! I'm special! :D
B) I'm surprised you don't track that in google contacts vs rcs. That's one thing I've found it to be handy for (linking everyone's myriad account names to their real name). I suppose if you're paranoid about the government getting their hands on that info you don't want to store it online anywhere, but I don't think that I have anyone who's quite that paranoid on my contacts list (because to get there, they pretty much all have gmail addresses or have sent email to my gmail address).
3.14159) I see you put drwex down as drsex. Excuse me while I die laughing.

Serves me right for not cut-and-pasting. :)

I use Google Contacts but my RCS "~/etc/phonebook" file is from 1991... and before that it was just a text file I maintained in college on my Amiga. Long before Google Contacts I found it was very nice to be able to ssh (or, ahem, telnet) to a central machine and enter notes about people. It has phone numbers and such going waaaay back.

I don't think I've ever known the real names of some of the people I know through LJ

I'm "likethewatch" everywhere because it tells people how to pronounce my last name.
